get180 tariff Utilita

Utilita launched into the domestic energy market in September 2004.

At that time, Utilita’s main ambition was to bring something different to the energy markets in that they wanted to provide the customer with tools to reduce their energy consumption.

 

The concept was that a typical energy customer on the get180 tariff would earn 180 credits per year and use these credits in exchange for energy saving measures this would allow them to reduce their energy consumption by 20%.

 

Also included within the concept at that time was that all tariffs included a Price Tracker Promise whereby all their tariffs tracked a reference price.

 

The Utilita reference prices used for the get180 tariff were:

 

British Gas prices for gas on monthly direct debit
British Gas prices for gas on prepayment
Old regional electricity company prices for electricity for monthly direct debit
Old regional electricity company prices for electricity for prepayment.

 

The get180 tariff had a three year term although a yearly opt out was available.

 

The tariff was renamed EnergySaverPlus on the 1st July 2005.

 

Customers were also exchange the credits in the form of a cashback which would be paid to them after being with Utilita for a period of one year.

 

At October 2004 the get180 tariff from Utilita offered a 20% credit/cashback, this was changed on the 1st March 2005 to be a 18.5% credit/cashback.

 

However on December 7, 2005 Utilita were placed in the unenviable situation of having to write to all customers to advise that their energy accounts were being transferred to EDF Energy on the standard EDF prices. Electricity accounts were transferred December 10, 2005, and gas accounts on December 17, 2005.

 

This was due to massive increases in wholesale energy costs and had Utilita not transferred these customers to EDF Energy then it was likely that the company would become insolvent.

 

Now back to the market after a fourteen month absence Utilita hope that its new tariffs, energysaver, energysaverplus and planetsaver attract a new tranche of customers.
