Bristol Energy

Bristol Energy is the UK's first municipal energy company. Given the go-ahead in February 2015, it has been worked on and developed since 2010 by Bristol City Council.
Built on the values of fairness, accountability and community. Bristol Energy was created to deliver sustainable economic prosperity, reduction in social inequality and improved environmental performance.
Bristol Energy promise to

  • Have a focus on locally generated, low carbon energy, with a mission to be the most environmentally conscious and trusted local energy supplier;
  • Provide a fairer deal for households currently on prepayment meters;
  • Support community investment in renewable and low carbon projects;
  • Develop district heating, electrical distribution and broadband/digital networks; and
  • Protect the city's critical infrastructure, thereby improving resilience.

As a result of this, Bristol Energy say they will be a different kind of Energy Company. One that is a force for social good and not wholly driven by profit. The supplier is available to customers throughout the UK and all profits made will support the businesses of Bristol and generate revenues for Bristol Council that will be used to reinvest in to Bristol.
